My spiritual journey started 40 years ago , But I didn’t know it.

AiR – Atman in Ravi shared a fascinating story about how his spiritual journey began almost 40 years ago—not in a temple, through meditation, or by studying scriptures, but with something as simple as a dosa.

In 1985, as a young man, he was walking home with his favourite dosa when he met a hungry man who said he had not eaten for two days. AiR gave him the dosa. That small act became a seed. Soon, he was distributing food and blankets, helping the homeless and visiting homes for the blind, disabled, elderly and abandoned. Eventually, these experiences led him to establish AiR humanitarian homes that today care for about 800 hundred people.

For nearly 30 years, AiR believed he was simply doing good Karma. Only later did he realize something deeper: Serving humanity is not merely Karma; serving humanity is prayer.

As Swami Vivekananda taught: “Shiva Jnane Jiva Seva” — serve every living being knowing them to be Shiva. When we serve another human being, we are not merely helping someone; we are serving the Divine within them.

This beautifully connects with the story of the starfish. A boy throwing stranded starfish back into the ocean is told, “There are millions of them. What difference can you make?” Picking up another starfish, he replies, “It makes a world of difference to this one.”

Perhaps spirituality is exactly this. We may not be able to change the world, but we can change someone’s world.

True enlightenment cannot remain confined to knowledge, meditation or philosophy. It must reflect in how we live. Spirituality is the science of action. Spirituality is about learning to see SIP(God) in all, love (SIP)God in all, and serve (SIP) God in all.

Sometimes, the road to enlightenment may begin with one small act of kindness.
